Un vistazo a la trama de «Bellas Artes»
Anyone familiar with the audiovisual work of the always caustic duo of Gastón Duprat and Mariano Cohn will discover in the series Bellas Artes, which Movistar Plus+ premieres in Spain on 11 April, a continuation of their usual irony and criticism. As the former did in My Masterpiece [+] and both in The Artist [+], they once again dissect with wit the widely accepted (and even applauded) stupidities, scams, and foolishness of the art world.
They once again have a resident actor in their work (the also Argentinian Óscar Martínez, who was with them in The Distinguished Citizen [+], for which he won the Volpi Cup in Venice) and give fundamental importance to the spaces where the action takes place, as in their last film released in cinemas, Official Competition [+].
If in that marvel of black humor, it was the atmosphere of the cinema, with its ridiculousness, rivalries, carelessness, and egos that came off badly (thanks to the involvement of stars who knew how to laugh openly at themselves, such as Martínez himself plus Antonio Banderas and Penélope Cruz), now it is that of modern art that undergoes the filmmakers’ salvage surgery. However, these fields could easily alternate and the result would be practically the same.
In both titles architecture features heavily, even repeating elements such as sculptures that fly over the actors’ heads and design lines that get lost in the horizon. The characters are left inside a huge stage that is reminiscent of those puppet boxes operated with strings that are used to distract children in squares and parks.
Porque todos, absolutamente todos los personajes de Bellas Artes son peleles sacudidos por el vacío de los tiempos que vivimos, por lo que (¡ojo!) todos podemos vernos reflejados en esta serie. El protagonista, Antonio Dumas (interpretado por Martínez), se def ine como «varón, maduro, blanco y heterosexual», además de -podemos añadir- reservado, cínico y engreído en sus decisiones profesionales y relaciones personales (su único amigo se llama Borges y es… un gato), que es seleccionado para dirigir un museo en Madrid.
Allí contará con una abnegada secretaria (interpretada por la siempre magnífica Aixa Villagrán, recientemente vista en La Mesías [ +] y que fue el descubrimiento de otra serie que también abofeteaba la estupidez social, La vida perfecta [ +]), una mano derecha y comisaria tan fashion victim como snob (Koldo Olabarri) y una ministra por encima de él (otra grande, Ana Wagener), con la que nuestro hombre tendrá de todo menos conexión, empatía y química.
Con estos elementos, el guionista Andrés Duprat ha hilvanado gags más o menos brillantes, más o menos previsibles/originales y más o menos bien resueltos, sobre la locura humana y sus habituales (e interminables) manifestaciones.
Por eso, los seis episodios de 30 minutos dirigidos por Martín Bustos (guionista de una serie anterior del dúo creativo, El Encargado) están llenos de sonrisas y ritmo, con breves pero inspiradas apariciones de José Sacristán, Ángela Molina, Fernando Albizu, Dani Rovira y, en una de sus escenas más hilarantes, Melina Matthews.
Bellas Art es una serie original de Movistar Plus+ producida por Gloriamundi e Historias Particulares AIE. Movistar Plus+ Internacional distribuirá la serie a nivel internacional (excepto en Latinoamérica). En Latinoamérica se estrenará íntegramente de forma simultánea en Star+.
